Soccer Bowl International Tournament 1989

Results

Recap

A League of Ireland XI travelled to Trinidad in the Caribbean to play in the Soccer Bowl 1989 International Tournament. Having beaten Ecuador (presumably on penalties) after a 1-1 draw in the Semi-Finals, the League of Ireland XI lost to hosts Trinidad & Tobago 1-0 in the Final. Peru finished third defeating Ecuador 2-1 in the Third Place Playoff. Reference: [1-2]. The Quality of opposition for the League of Ireland squad was undeniable with Ecuador and Peru, both South American countries, always strong, and Trinidad & Tobago at the time in line for a 1990 World Cup Finals berth (they would eventually lose out on the last day of Qualifying to USA).
